William "Bill" Jones Jr.
August 4, 1941 ~ September 15, 2024
William “Bill” Duke Jones, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on September 15, 2024.
Born to William Duke and Hazel Jones, Sr. on August 4, 1941, in Lexington, Kentucky, Bill enjoyed an active childhood racing go-karts and participating in Boy Scouts. Although barely big enough to meet the minimum requirements, Bill proudly joined the Marine Reserves immediately following high school and met his beloved Beulah on a blind date not long after; they were married three months later to the day and inseparable for over 61 years. Bill and Beulah resided in Danville and worked side-by-side at the Bluegrass Credit Bureau for over 30 years; when not at work, they passionately researched genealogy and pursued cemetery preservation. As a dedicated member of the Mitchellsburg Baptist Church, Bill served for two years as Minister of Music and often ran the sound board during services. A mainstay of the local sporting scene, Bill coached youth bowling leagues, enjoyed playing in multiple bowling leagues during the winter, and spent many summers coaching the women’s Class A Mustangs softball team. Bill served as President of the Danville Country Club, loved playing golf with Beulah, and traveled all over the world playing golf with friends, joyfully including his sons on several trips; Bill enjoyed golf so much, that he even made custom clubs in retirement! Bill never met a stranger, and his memory will long live in the hearts of those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Beulah Cocanougher Jones, as well as a sister Phyllis (Richard) Queen of Louisville; two sons, Kevin Duke (Margaret) Jones of Danville and Philip Jones of Bowling Green; two step-granddaughters Morgan ( Bennett) Clark, and Rori (David) Tyler, a step great granddaughter Calvert Clark, nephews Travis Cocanougher, Timothy Cocanougher, and Rick Queen, and niece Kelly Queen.
The visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2024, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. A private family graveside will be held.

My sincere sympathy to Beulah and his family.🦋🙏🏻🦋
My heart hurts a little more today with the news that Bill is no longer with us. My sincerest condolences to Beulah, Kevin, Phillip, and their families in their time of sadness and grief. I had the privilege of working for Bill at the Credit Bureau for many years and can honestly say he was the best boss I ever worked for. Bill was not just my boss, he was my friend as well as a father figure whom I admired and respected over the years. I, as well as many others will miss you Bill, the world is a lesser place with you no longer in it. Love, Steve 🥹💔
Prayers for the family….🙏
I had the pleasure of knowing Bill and Beulah for only a few years, but I thought the world of both of them. Their work at Bellevue cemetery, updating and correcting the city records, will stand as a monument to both. Prayers for you, Beulah. He was a good man.
Mrs. Jones & family,
I’m so sorry for your loss.
I’m grateful to Bill for inspiring me to become a professional golf club builder. We also shared the brotherhood of serving in the Marine Corps. I considered him to be both a friend and mentor. I will never forget him.
