Ruth Ann Phillips, 80, of Danville died on January 3, 2025. Born on June 19, 1944, in Danville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Christine Phillips.

Ruth graduated from Danville High School in 1961 and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Centre College in 1965. Her passion for education and service led her to earn her doctorate and become a professor at the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University. Ruth Ann’s dedication to helping others extended into her professional career, where she served as the Executive Director of the American Red Cross in Danville. In addition to her role with the Red Cross, she made a significant impact as a local substitute teacher, nurturing the next generation with her compassion and knowledge.

A graveside service to honor Ruth Ann’s life will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Bellevue Cemetery with Sean Gladding.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the charity of your choice.

Ruth Ann Phillips will be greatly missed, but her contributions to her community and her eclectic nature will never be forgotten.

  1. Miss. Ruth Ann Phillips was my English Professor at Kentucky State University, Frankfort, KY in 1970-71. She was an amazing instructor. My sincere condolences to her loved ones.

  4. I only knew Ruth Ann a short time. She had asked me to be on theBoyle Co. Red Cross Board. For some unknown reason The Lexinton Chapter decided to dissolve the Boyle Co. Chapter. Ruth Ann was passionate about what ever she did, whether teaching or the Red Cross work. I remember her setting up a shelter for an ice storm that knocked out electricity in Danville for over a week at the Boyle Co. school gym.She made arrangements for the food and everything.
    May God bless your sweet soul.

  5. She was my English instructor at EKU campus here in Danville. She always pushed me to be my best in my literature class!! Very intelligent lady & heart of gold she had. I’m sorry to hear of her passing.
