Oliver Holt McFarland, 64, died November 15, 2020 in Danville, Kentucky. He was born January 6, 1956 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, the son of the late Stanley Lee and Alma Jean Agee McFarland. Oliver was a Montgomery County High School and Eastern Kentucky University graduate. Oliver earned his master’s degree in counseling and was a national board-certified counselor. For the last twenty-two years he was committed to Recovery Roadhouse, and recently volunteered at Shepherd’s House and Sunrise Children’s Services. He found his calling as the Activities Director at Charleston Healthcare, where he worked for twenty-eight years. He learned to play the piano as a teenager and played almost daily. He especially enjoyed playing for nursing home residents on Sunday mornings. On warm days, he could often be found riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Oliver poured himself into other people and was an excellent friend. He was predeceased by a brother Danny Lee McFarland, and sister, Carolyn Sue McFarland Brown. He is survived by his daughter, Trina (Travis) McFarland Kern of Danville; three grandchildren Corban, Danyale, and Hayle; a brother, Johnny Wayne McFarland of Mt. Sterling; a sister Delores McFarland Ratliff; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. A Family Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Longview Cemetery, Bethel, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Sandy Blair, Paul Hutt, Travis Kern, Brad McFarland, Russell McFarland, and Matt Sowders. Memorial donations are suggested to The Recovery Roadhouse (P.O. I was part of a universe that was ruled by justice and love in the person of God.\” Oliver approached everyone with this same spirit – he was truly an individual that sought to reach out to those in need and to be of assistance. We know that Oliver is happy, joyous and free, but he is sorely, sorely missed.

  17. Even though we are first cousins I never got the opportunity to spend time with you. I am so sorry to hear of your passing and our prayers go out for your family and friends.

  18. I am so saddened to hear about Oliver\’s passing. He was one of our favorite students at EKU-Danville because of his friendly, helpful attitude and his sincere efforts to learn as much as he could while pursuing his degree. He often helped out other students even as he maintained his regular job. Wishing comfort and strength to his loving family and friends.

  19. Oliver was a big part of my dad\’s (Bob Browne) life while a resident of Charleston Nursing Home. He was a cherished employee there. I am saddened to hear of his passing. Thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Oliver. Maybthe happiest of memories carry you through the coming days and times.

  20. He was the Balm of Gilead for me. While working in Harlan, KY in the Natural gas fields I would become lost and lonely and he would have me down to Danville for a meeting, dinner, workout and a boatload of Hope! May you rest in Peace my friend!
