Our Prayers are w/ the family
Love you Aunt JoAnn
Farewell, what wonderful memories you leave for us.
Farewell to a lovely lady.
When we make new friends as we age, those friendships seem so sweet, maybe because we know that they are fleeting. Jo Ann’s friendship was that, both sweet and fleeting. We met nearly 8 years ago at a neighborhood function. I was the new kid and when I caught her eye, she motioned for me to come and sit beside her. I was so glad to see a friendly face. As we exchanged names and addresses we discovered that our homes were right across the street from one another. What tickled us most was that we had the same name and that we spelled it the same way. We agreed that no one knows how to spell Jo Ann. As time went on, she invited me into her weekly card game. We usually had lunch together first and then went on to the game. She’d get into the car and the first question was WHAT’S THE NEWS? She was young in heart and mind, and forever interested in “what’s the news?” She had had an interesting life and was willing to share her insights. We agreed on nearly everything – love, politics, restaurants. As her health began to fail, she retained what was to me the one thing that made her who she was – her wicked sense of humor. When I think of us together, we are laughing. The only times I ever saw a tear in her eye was when she was worried about one of her children, or was remembering a long-ago love, gone too soon. I thank God for my friend Jo Ann, and am so very grateful for the years of lunches and laughter. God bless Jo Ann.
When I first moved to Beverly Hills, Fl. I rented a house that was owned by Jo Ann’s son & our friendship has continued thru all these years. Birthday lunches, Christmas progressive dinners, weekly Hand & Foot card games & constant laughter will remain w/me forever. We were in Bunco & a walking group also. I’m 87 now & I always thought Jo Ann would live to be 100 because there was always something to brighten my day w/her E-Mails. A very special person & am so glad to have had her as my friend. We met at IBM over 35 year\’s ago and quickly became friends. We decided that we wanted to go out to dinner and have our husbands met, but when we got together they already knew each other because they work together at IBM, so we set up more dates to play cards and more dinners. We watched each other\’s kids grow up. When Charlie and Jo moved to Beverly Hills, Bill and I decided to follow. I will miss our weekly calls and most of all our friendship.
