James Howard “Jim” Gordon, 91, died at his home in Owensboro, Monday, September 11, 2017. Jim was born September 10, 1926 in Springfield, Ky, son of William and Dora Howard Gordon. He graduated from Danville High School in December 1944 and joined the Army Air Corps in January 1945. Jim served in the Panama area for 2 years, seeing the end of WWII. Afterward, he graduated from Georgetown College. Jim began working for Western Kentucky Gas in 1956 and was transferred from Danville, KY to Owensboro in 1963. He worked there until retiring as Manager of Corrosion Control in 1988. He served as Chairman of the KY Corrosion Coordinating Committee. He was a devoted member of Third Baptist Church, Owensboro, where he served faithfully in many positions. Jim especially loved his church choir and was honored by his church in December 2000 when he was named Deacon Emeritus. Jim was a Kentucky Colonel. He loved his state and his KY Wildcats. He served as president of Owensboro Kiwanis Club in 1969-1970 and devoted years of service as a leader with Junior Achievement. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Gordon, his sister, Betty Gordon Clem and three nephews. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy Mae Sewell Gordon; daughters, Mona (Doug) Wyatt of Danville, KY and Lou Ann (Dave) Bowersox of Owensboro and a son, John (Diane) Gordon of Madison, AL. Jim leaves behind his brother, William Arthur Gordon, Jr. of Pekin, IL; six grandchildren, Rachael Huffman Jones, Hanna Huffman Adams, Andrew Wyatt, Jimmy Gordon, John Ross Wyatt, Mary Beth Gordon and four step-grandchildren, Dave Bowersox, April Costello, Jeff Bowersox and Dave Bowersox. He leaves three great-grandchildren and one on the way, nine step-great-grandchildren and one on the way, two nephews and one niece. The Gordon family would like to give loving thanks to Jim’s doctor, Judy Carrico, who has taken tremendous care of our family for years. We also thank his caregivers Sharon, Charlotte, Evelyn, Brandy, Sherry, and Tammy, as well as Hospice of Western Kentucky. Visitation and a service will be held in Owensboro on Thursday and Friday followed by services in Danville. The funeral service in Danville will be 11 am, Monday, September 18, 2017, at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. Rev. Dwight Moody and Rev. Tommy Valentine will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 until 6 pm Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville and after 10 am, Monday, at the church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Danville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Third Baptist Church or Hospice of Western Kentucky.   1. My Dad, Jack Watts, worked with Mr. Gordon for many years with Western KY Gas company. I remember visiting the Gordon\’s home when I was a child. Prayers for the Gordon family on their loss.
