Charly H. Karam

charly karam

Born to Hassan and Bahia Karam on January 22, 1939, in Aitaneet, Lebanon, Charly led a life filled with dedication, family, and love. The oldest of eight he served as the family patriarch after his father’s passing. Known for his patience and ever-present smile, Charly was a kind and gentle soul who made a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Charly had a deep love for his wife and children and a steadfast devotion to the Lord. These values guided his life.  Passionate about cooking and baking, Charly managed a bakery for many years before following his dream of opening his own restaurant. He loved sharing meals with family and friends. His culinary talents were a source of joy for those around him.

One of his greatest passions was tending to his garden, where he found peace and joy in nurturing nature. His beloved fig trees were his pride and joy, symbolic of his deep connection to his roots and of the simple beauty of life.

Charly is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marion Lay Karam of Lexington; his children Eric “Todd” (Joann) Karam of Cleveland, Anthony “Tony” (Kayla) Karam of Lexington and Stephen Karam (Sarah Moon) of Lexington and his cherished grandchildren, Courtney Karam Call, Alexander and Mildred “Millie” Karam; his siblings Tom (Jenny) Karam of Montreal, and Mona Rizk of Beirut. He was preceded in death by his brothers Rafic, Fadi and Wafic and his sisters Marie and Moha. He will also be remembered by many extended family members and close friends.

The funeral service will be Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Stith Funeral Home, Danville, KY with Reverend Scott Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. The burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, KY.

  6. Even though I never met him before, uncle Charly and Marion welcomed my sister and I into their home when we arrived from Lebanon. He gave me my first job at the bakery and showed me the american (exact) way of weighing, after I generously got 19 one pound bags out of a 20 pound box of pine nuts! His gentle nature reminded me of my grandfather (his father). He will be missed. May he rest in peace.

  7. Uncle Charly had a very kind heart and a very calm demeanor. You can not help but love and admire him. At 17, I was very eager and excited to neet the uncle that my mom and granmother never stopped talking about. He was very easy to talk to, I enjoyed our coversations and listening to his stories. Marion and uncle Charly and so were their 3 sons very welcoming to my brother and I when we first came from Lebanon. My deepest condolences to all of you and the whole family. Uncle Charly, I will always keep you in ny heart and prayers. May you rest in peace !

  8. I was one of Charly’s care givers, He’d always tell me stores his restaurant that he owned, how much he missed working. I will never forget Charly. During his time with us, he had became my family. Whenever i went to see him in his room, he always had a smile on his face. I’m grateful to have met him. He has left an everlasting impression on me. I would like to thank his son Tony and his wife Marion for being so kind and always so friendly. Charly may be gone physically but he will never be forgotten 🕊️
