Bobby Lee Frye

September 23, 1944 ~ August 19, 2024
Bobby Lee Frye, 79 passed away on August 19, 2024. He was born on September 23, 1944, in Danville, KY, to the late Isaac Frye, Jr. and Rosa Anna Scott. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Bobby L. Frye, Jr., and his sisters Frances Walker, Lena Faulkner, Willetta Bailey, and Lucille Andrews. Bobby Frye was a member of First Baptist Church, 2nd and Walnut Street Danville, KY where he sang in the Glee Club under the direction of Mrs. Lola Dale, was a bus driver, and participated in other church ministries. Bobby moved his church membership to Davistown Baptist Church to support his brother Rev. Issac Frye who had been called to pastor there. Upon Rev. Frye leaving Davistown Baptist Church, Bobby moved his membership back to First Baptist Church, 2nd and Walnut Street Danville, Ky.
Bobby attended Bate High School, began his career at Rexall Drug Store, and later transitioned to a dedicated tractor-trailer driver for UPS, where he spent over 35 years transporting packages with diligence and care. He retired from UPS 12 years ago in 2012. Bobby was a past member of Doric Lodge #18 P.H.A., Jaycees, and a past union steward of Teamsters Union Local 651. He loved fishing, watching baseball, and UK basketball, and always kept up with the weather and the news. He often sent news alerts to his family. Bobby loved his family, children, and grandchildren with every breath in his body.
Known for his warm and welcoming personality, Bobby never met a stranger and had an infectious laugh and contagious smile that brightened the lives of all those around him. He was a true friend to those who knew and loved him as a friend. Bobby was particularly known for his trademark farewell: “so long” and “see you later,” because he believed that “goodbye” meant forever. His positive outlook and unique way of saying goodbye left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Bobby is survived by his spouse, Minnie Lee Frye, and his daughters Angela (Thomas) Ledford, Rhonda (Timothy) Grays, Coletta (Kevin) Brown, Bobbie Sue Frye and her mother Pamela Allen, his grandchildren Jazlyn Grays, Jayden Grays, Kendall Brown, and Chelsea Brown, his siblings James (Deloris) Scott, William Scott, Piccola (Joe) Greer, Fannie Walker, Oliver (Berniece) Garr, Rev. Issac (Sherry) Frye, III, and Betty (Michael) Frye-Derricotte, and many nieces and nephews. His family will forever cherish his memory and the countless friends he made throughout his life.
A visitation to celebrate Bobby’s life will be held on August 30, 2024, at First Baptist Church, located at 2nd & Walnut in Danville, KY, starting at 10 a.m. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location at 12 p.m. Bobby’s final journey will conclude with his burial at Danville Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
In his passing, Bobby leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his heartfelt way of parting will continue to inspire all who knew him. As Bobby would say, “So long” and “see you later.”

My sincerest condolences to the Frye Family. I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Frye many years ago in Danville, while I was attending E.K.U. Heck of a guy, and he will be missed. God Bless.
Loving tributes to Minnie Frye’s Bobby and Coletta ‘s Daddy. Mr. Frye’s wonderful personality surely did influence Coletta. She was a joy to know. Thoughts and prayers are with the Frye and Brown families.
