Basil Cole, Jr (93), most recently of Danville, Kentucky, died February 26, 2024. Born 19 November 1930 in Stanford, Kentucky, to the late Anna Belle Farmer and Basil Cole, Sr. He was a graduate of Danville High School , the University of Kentucky, and many other military associated schools.

Basil served 20 years in the active U.S. Army and additional 20 years as Department of Army Civilian for a total 40 years. His assignments include numerous positions in the continental United States and foreign duties with Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, (SHAPE) in Paris, France; Detachment F, Korea Military Advisory Group (KMAG) in Pusan, Republic of Korea; Headquarters, US Army, Europe (UAREUR) / Seventh US Army in Heidelberg, Germany; and a second tour in the Republic of Korea with headquarters, Eighth US Army, Seoul, South Korea.

He is survived by his spouse, Beulah DeRossett Cole, formerly of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, (a loving wife for over 71 years and officers, lady for all his services to the nation). Additionally, he is survived by four daughters; Susan Smith, Lexington, Kentucky; Linda Anderson, Danville, Kentucky; Shirley Whisenant, Danville, Kentucky, and Janet Cassidy of Danville Kentucky. Descendants and siblings include 12 grandchildren, one deceased grandson, and 22 great grandchildren, and a deceased brother, Ronald Lee Cole, and sister-in-law Mary Cole, niece Shannon Cole and nephew Brian Cole of Lexington Kentucky.

 

Memorial services with interment in Camp Nelson National Cemetery will be 11:00 am, Monday, March 4, 2024. With military honors provided by the United States Army and American Legion Caswell-Saufley Post 18.
