Anne Clarke
April 9, 1936 ~ July 14, 2020
Anne Dooling Clarke died peacefully on July 14th. She was born April 9, 1936 in Boston to Pauline and James Dooling, was a resident of Danville, KY for more than sixty years, and is survived by three of her four sons: Philip J. Clarke 3rd and wife Winifred, Morehead City, NC; John Dillon Clarke and wife Jan, Huntsville, AL; and David Rogers Clarke and wife Anna, Fairfax, VA. She was predeceased by her son Geoffrey Newton Clarke, brother Paul R. Dooling, and former husband, P. Joseph Clarke Jr. She was a graduate of the Convent of the Sacred Heart 91st Street, Manhattanville College, and the University of Kentucky College of Law.
Anne was a devoted mother, caring sister, and supporter of the arts and library. She enjoyed visiting her grandchildren and was an avid fan of the UK and Notre Dame sports teams. With time on her hands after raising her four sons, Anne went to law school and subsequently was in private practice in Danville for several years and then worked as an attorney for the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services until her retirement. Anne had a sharp wit and was a strong believer in \"good government\" and ensuring equality of opportunity for all.
She is survived also by her sisters Elizabeth C. Dooling, MD of Boston, Margot D. Houghton of New York, and Katharine R. Dooling of Kaneohe, HI; her cherished grandchildren: Aaron, Joseph, Elizabeth, Owen, Lucy, Annie, Tommy, Rachel, and Dillon; and three great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
A memorial service will be held in Danville, KY when circumstances permit. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Danville, KY or the charity of your choice. Please sign guestbook or send a Hug from Home.

Peace be with you all!
We will miss Anne as we were always neighbors. First on Alta Ave, then on Boone Trail
We were always neighbors. First on Alta Ave, then on Boone Trail. Had such good conversations. She would apologize for bothering me. Then we would have a “catch up” on the neighborhood.
A life well lived
I loved her like family enjoyed her through out my life. She was a part of our family for so so long ! We grew up with all the kids and lived a great Danville childhood ! I admired her laugh her voice her thoughts and her determination to get her law degree . Will truly be in my favorite memories
Lovely sweet Lady
We will miss our dear Anne so much. She was a compassionate, concerned, energetic, loyal, and loving person. Words cannot capture her superior characteristics. She will be remembered by many for her kind spirit. May she rest in eternal peace.
Some of my happiest memories are of growing up in Danville with the Clarke boys and your ever present mom trying to get us to fly right. Lovely lady and someone who really cared.
Hi Clarkes Anne was my classmate at Manhattanville all those years ago! When I saw her obit in today\’s Times, the thing that came to me immediately was that she was the fastest talker I had ever met. She was bright and full of energy and I remember her fondly. My love to all of you who loved her susan murphy
I worked with Anne at the Office of Legal Services, Cabinet for Health and Family Services. She was a wonderful colleague and friend. We had fun times and tough times. There were some wins and many more losses but she always was optimistic that the people of the Commonwealth were the winners. When something dramatic would happen that ended up being reported in the newspapers, Anne would come into my office (really a cubicle) and say, \”Well, that was just dreadful.\” She was well respected by her colleagues, her clients, the many judges before whom she appeared and opposing counsels. We missed her when she retired. We have no doubt that she is in heaven reminding other souls of their good manners.
To Miss Anne’s family, I met Miss Anne a few months ago in Danville. She was always poised and pleasant with a wealth of knowledge. Prayers for your family. Wilma Lay Linton
I baby sat for Mrs Clarke on Alta and enjoyed her company at the pool chasing the four boys . They all were so full of vim and vigor. She was so bright and quick. That Boston accent was intriguing. May she Rest In Peace. Kathy P Fuqua
