Robert Kendall Akin, 67, of Danville, died Thursday, March 30, 2023. Born November 4, 1955, he was the son of Clarence and Vorees Cormney Akin. He was a life-long resident of Danville and was an English Professor at St. Catharine College in Washington County, Kentucky. He earned a master’s degree in education as well as literature. He has earned many awards for his writing. Of those are Best Poetry Award from Eastern Kentucky University and Best Student Award for MUM’s Master’s in Education Program. He took pride in the love he had for writing poems. Theatre was also a passion of Robert’s as he took roles in acting, managing, directing and sound effects. He directed the production of “To Kill a Mockingbird” at the Ragged Edge Theatre in Harrodsburg. He attended the First Church of God in Danville. Survivors include sisters, Lyndall (Harold) Cheatham and Carolyn (Kenneth) Crouch; nieces, Joy Sexton, Christy (Tate) Jackson and Bethany Crouch; and great-nephew, Devon Scales-Sexton. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at First Church of God, Harrodsburg Road in Danville with Rev. Mike Cox officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Monday, April 3, 2023 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Memorial donations are suggested to First Church of God.
