rick serres

September 28, 1955 ~ September 22, 2025

Richard Alan “Rick” Serres, 69, died on September 22, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Rick was born in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, on September 28, 1955, to the late Ron and Rose Serres. He was the founder and president of Bluegrass Biomedical in Danville.

Rick Serres was a cherished friend and a true pillar of the Danville community. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering service, infectious laughter, and boundless love.

A true friend to all, Rick never met a stranger. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was one of his greatest gifts, and every conversation was an opportunity for connection, usually sealed with a joke—some good, some famously bad, but all delivered with the same enthusiasm.

Rick was a tireless advocate for the city of Danville. He believed in the power of community and dedicated countless hours serving on the City Council, volunteering, or simply speaking up for progress, his impact can be seen in the parks, streets, and spirit of the town.

He was a firm believer in staying active and was an inspiration to many. He loved to travel, experience new things, and live music. His favorite destination was always a sandy beach, where he could listen to the waves with a drink in hand.

He showed us all how to live a life of purpose, generosity, and joy. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the town he championed and in the hearts of all who knew him.

Rick is survived by his wife, Audrey Louise Serres, children, Amber Serres, Adam Serres (Christopher McKnight), and Andrew (AllieShae) Serres, grandchildren, Sawyer Rose Serres and Avery Dean Serres, and brothers, Ray (Denise) Serres, Rob (Heidi) Serres, and Rod (Gretta) Serres.

Guestbook

  1. One of my favorite friends and tennis partners. Rick was the most positive person I’ve ever known. We had a nice chat last Friday evening. Love to Audrey and the family. Danville lost a gem

  2. Audrey and family, I am so sorry, and wish I had magical words of comfort to share. What I can share…..Rick was one of the most enthusiastic humans I have ever met. Always happy to see you, always up for a challenge, and of course a good joke. He was so encouraging during bike rides and loved helping people become as active as he. Prayers during this time. Karlynn and Shane

    • I am devastated to hear the news of Rick’s passing. Rick was one of the most genuine and caring people I’ve ever met. In 2013, Rick, Audrey, Amy and I took a trip to Spain/ France/ England and spent two wonderful weeks enjoying the European culture. It was a fabulous adventure. Some of my favorite bike rides were with Rick and friends. My thoughts and prayers go out to Audrey and the family.

  3. Rick was a fantastic friend and fun to be around. Amy and I, along with other friends went on some great adventures. Keeping Audrey and the family in our thoughts and prayers!

  4. This is heartbreaking to see. Rick was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He was so much fun to be around, always had a joke or a funny story and if there was music playing he insisted on dancing. I will never forget when I met him; he came into Joes deli on his way home from a long bike ride and struck up a conversation.

Audrey, I am so sorry for you and your family. Wish there was something I could say to make it easier for you

  5. So many miles we ran together. So many stories we told. Till we can run again together on the streets of gold.
    Gods Peace

  6. Rick was one of a kind. Not only a neighbor, but a he and Audrey were part of our family. So many fun times spent with him over the years. Doug and I lift this dear family up in prayers. God bless,
    Pam and Doug Lindberg

  7. I’m so sorry to hear this news. Rick was one of a kind and such a great supporter of Danville’s running community! Lots of fond memories of all those 5ks. I’m sure he’s telling jokes to all the saints in heaven!! Audrey, you and your family will remain in my prayers. God bless.

  8. Rick will be missed in so many ways. He truly cared about this community and was such a positive presence at many events, large and small. We are a better place to live because of his dedicated service.

  9. I am heartbroken. As positive a person as I have ever met and just a good, kind soul. I am a better person for having spent time with him. Grave and peace to Audrey and family.

  10. Message to the Family

I was deeply saddened to hear of Rick’s passing. He was not only an outstanding biomedical engineer and businessman, but also a truly remarkable person. Rick’s friendliness, positivity, and generosity touched everyone who knew him. His legendary bike rides, where he made sure no one was ever left behind, reflected the way he lived—always supportive, encouraging, and kind.

Rick never had a bad word for anyone and always carried a smile, along with wise advice when it was most needed. He will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments, but even more for the joy, warmth, and inspiration he brought to others.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences, especially to Audrey, Adam, and the whole family. Rick will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

  11. We are so saddened to hear of Rick’s passing. Rick gave so much of himself to so many people and his community…which will be a lasting legacy. Prayers for Audrey, Amber,Adam, Andrew and all his family. See ya in Heaven friend.

  13. I’m so sorry to learn of Rick’s death. I knew him as a City Commissioner, and have always appreciated his service and friendliness. He was a public servant who was also a neighbor. He showed up in the community at events and attended like all the rest of us and I always thought that was important. It was in that context I met and got to know him. Because he was out and about, he was approachable and heard what people in the community thought about issues, not just what was said in meetings at City Hall. Rick will be sorely missed. Sincere condolences to his family and friends. May his memory be a blessing.

  17. Gone too soon….but not without leaving miles of memories, several jokes and a couple libations. Whether biking, skating, skiing, running, boating, hiking, or traveling by car, Rick always went the distance. His endearing support of the arts, parks, sports and community health are stalwart. Forever kind, positive and encouraging. Praying for Audrey, Amber, Andrew, Adam and the extended family during this time.

  20. Rick was a good friend. We enjoyed getting together to discuss politics, family, community happenings, etc. He was dedicated to the Danville community and especially developments with the parks and recreation scene and economic development. Though in great pain himself, recently, he always showed concern for what others were going through. He loved his family and talked about what Audrey, his children and grandchildren were doing with great pride. He will be missed.

  21. All our LOVE to the Serres Family!!! Rick was an AMAZING human being and lit up the room no matter where he was…Rick will truly be missed and remembered for his warm smile and welcoming personality. We stand and pray with everyone during this difficult time and celebrate the man and life of Rick!

  22. Audrey, and family. We are so saddened by the news of Rick’s passing. You and your family have been on our hearts, and in our prayers. Even though I have not seen you all in many years, I cherish the fun times we had together. Playing beach volleyball at A-1A with you all was such a blast. I’ll always cherish those fun times and the laughter we shared. We are sending prayers of strength, and peace to you, and your family.

  23. Amber and family, although it’s been years since I’ve seen your sweet dad, I can still hear his laugh and see that genuine smile. He always had words of encouragement for us running and a joke to test our sense of humor. I’m so sorry for your loss. His absence will be immense but please know that we send our love and prayers from far and wide. And his spirit lives on best in you. Sincerely, Lane Griffin Valiante

  24. What a sweet and funny man…my husband and I met him early upon moving here through mutual friends❣️ he was a quick friend and never failed to smile, stop and chat, and of course, share a joke and a laugh. I got to know him more when I supported his efforts on the “Smokin’ Butt Bike Ride” during the days of the BBQ Festival….what an advocate for the bikers in our community and just a GOOD HEARTED KIND MAN. HE definitely got my support when he ran for Commissioner and always listened to any concerns for our Danville community …even during his recent health concerns…always a SMILE 😊 To Audrey and his family…our sincerest condolences…my ❤️ breaks for all of you🙏🏽🫶🏽🙏🏽
