Patricia West

Patricia German West, 96, of Louisville, passed away on June 2, 2023 at Baptist Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 15, 1926 in Washington, DC., the oldest daughter of Charles Daniel German and Anne Baumgardner German. Pat graduated from Rollins College of Winter Park, Florida. At Rollins, she was involved in many campus activities including being president of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Her gracious nature and sincerity led to her being recognized in Who’s Who, as well as being crowned Homecoming Queen. The family also had a residence in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and after graduation, she went on a blind date with William B. West Jr. of Danville, KY. In 1950, they were married and lived in Washington, DC until their move to Louisville on October 12, 1964. A proud native of Washington, DC, she is a longstanding member of the Chevy Chase Club. Her husband, her brother, Charles D. German Jr., and niece, Catherine, predeceased her. Pat/Patsy/Mother/Nana/Nanny was a beautiful, compassionate, and intelligent woman. Her father gave her the nickname “Miss Full Charge” which - upon being discovered by her dear friends - was used often as an affectionate tease; in fact, a dear friend named a prominent filly “Madam Full Charge” in her honor. A genial, clever, and warm soul, Pat took great interest and care in the lives and well-being of her children and grand-children. Her attentiveness was legendary and combined with her caring nature led to her knowing more about her children and grand-children than their best friends. While she was a voracious reader, she also loved to be surrounded by family and her many friends, be it while hosting parties or traveling. Her unwavering love and wit were present through the end. Pat is survived by her twin sons, Charles David West (Beth) and William Fox West (Patty); a daughter Anne W. Butler (Harold); a sister, Nancy G Von Ammon of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a sister in law June M. German of Chevy Chase, MD; five grandchildren, Dabney A. West (Benji Thunell) of Jackson Hole WY, C. Dawson West, William F. West Jr. (Kaitlynn), George W. West of Louisville, KY, and Caroline P. West of Nashville, TN.; and three great grandchildren, Dillon Thunell, Louise “Weezie” Thunell, and Grace West. In addition, she was blessed with four nieces: Carolyn German, Susan Rathbone, Victoria Von Ammon, and Jennifer Von Ammon. And of course, her dear dog and constant companion, Teddy. Visitation will be on Friday June 9, 2023 from 4 - 7 at Pearson’s, 149 Breckenridge Ln, Louisville, KY 40207.
