Norma Jean Buchanan, 93, of Danville, Kentucky, died peacefully on January 22, 2025. Born on April 8, 1931, in Parkers Lake, Kentucky, to the late Sidney and Pearl Smith. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William E. “Buck” Buchanan, and her siblings James Carroll Smith, Pauline “Polly” Waugh, Helen Teaford, Ann Woodruff, Sue Lakes, Sidney Smith, Charlotte Smith, and Mimi Gordon.

Norma lived a life enriched by family, friends, and her deep commitment to her community. A graduate of Danville High School in 1949, she went on to have a successful career as a Data Processing Clerk at Inter-County Energy, where her meticulous nature and dedication shone brightly.

Norma was not only known for her diligent work but also for her vibrant personality. She was a contributing writer for the Advocate Messenger, sharing her insights and passions with readers. An avid Bridge player, she enjoyed countless hours of companionship and friendly competition with her bridge games. Norma loved to travel, creating cherished memories and experiencing the beauty of the world around her.

She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Cathy Hoover and Charlotte (Gus) Faeth, her brother Roger “Roddy” (Francine) Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass will be at noon, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church with celebrant Father Danny Schwendeman, visitation will be 10 a.m. until the Mass at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Mike Simpson, Joey Kirk, Pat Yankey, Dave Thompson, William Hudson, and Lee Baker. She will be buried with her husband at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested to The Salvation Army, Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, or Heritage Hospice.
