Nancy Chenault Noe Gower passed away on May 2, 2024. Born in Stanford Kentucky on December 7, 1927, to Stith and Nancy Katherine Noe, she was raised on the beautiful Cold Spring Hereford Farm in the Lincoln County community of Hubble. She was an accomplished horsewoman from a young age often riding her horses, Pearl and Honey, to Stanford to watch the matinee or swimming them in the Hanging Fork Creek on the farm. While a student at Centre College she often arrived late from an afternoon riding lesson only to pull on her formal over her riding pants and boots for dinner.

She graduated from Centre College, attended the University of Alabama, and received a Master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University. She taught school at The Kentucky School for the Deaf for approximately 30 years. Nancy was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Danville. After retirement, she was a driver for The Senior Citizen’s Meals on Wheels.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband, John Ashmore Gower, with whom she shared a passion for birdwatching. They spent happy times traversing the lower 48 states, Alaska, and Canada, while camping, birdwatching, and sightseeing. She was also predeceased in death by her four siblings, Walker Noe, Betty Ann Keiser, Tippy Meis, and Bob Noe. She is survived by her three children, Cindi Lacy (John) of Danville, Tom Gower (Jennifer) of Raleigh North Carolina,  and Louise Godshall (Kurt) of Shelbyville Kentucky as well as four grandchildren, Ash Lacy (Ashley), Katherine Lacy, Kristen Pittman (Chris), and Cat Riegert (Matt).

A memorial service will be 11 a.m., July 20th at The Presbyterian Church of Danville with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of McDowell Place of Danville, The Lantern of Morning Pointe, and The Masonic Home in Shelbyville Kentucky for their care for Nancy.

Memorials may be made to The Presbyterian Church of Danville or the Salvation Army of Danville.

  6. Mrs. Gower was my teacher at Waynesburg Ele. in 1965. I enjoyed her tremendously because she and I shared a love for horses. Of course I only had my brother’s pony to ride, but she acted like that was special. 🙂

  8. Mrs. Gower was my 3rd-grade teacher way back in 1985-1986. She was strict, but a great teacher. She will be missed by many of her former students, colleagues, friends, and family! Prayers to Mrs. Gower’s family.

  9. Will miss her- She was my best teacher at KSD middle school and also she interpreted for me during my birth with first daughter!! She was SO lovely, caring and serious lady! 🤟🏼
