Marjorie Moore Blakey, affectionately known as Jalene, age 73, passed away peacefully at her home in Danville, Kentucky, on March 15, 2024. Born on September 18, 1950, in Heidelberg Mississippi, and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Marjorie moved to Danville in 2007, where she quickly became a beloved member of the community.
Jalene was the heart and soul of her family, always opening her home to those in need. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the simple joy she found in sitting in her rocking chair on the front porch, watching over the neighborhood children who adored her.
Marjorie was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Leroy Blakey, her pets Nemo, and Olivia, Mr. Whiskers, and her parents Carstelle Moore and Camillis “Blue” Millsap. Her legacy of love and kindness lives on through her children, Gregory Moore, Gary (Carolyn) Blakey, Karla Blakey, Deshawn (Bobbie) Blakey, Isaiah McCormick, Javieon Green, Ian (Britany) Rosser, and Goddaughter Sharon Johnson, along with five grandchildren Pierre Moore, Jalisa Phyfiher, Trakelia Phyfiher, Dion Johnson, and Myleia Johnson. Two great aunts Linterna Nubie and Jessie Gilmore and special friends Mary Huston, and Dorothy (John) Gilkey.
An avid animal lover, Jalene’s pets, Mr. Bubbles, Stripes, and Abigail, were her constant companions, bringing laughter and comfort to her home.
Marjorie’s family invites those who knew and loved her to join them in commemorating a life well-lived, a heart generously shared, and a spirit that will forever light the way for those she leaves behind.
In the words of Marjorie ‘Jalene’ Blakey, ‘If you don’t know me after that, then there’s nothing more you need to know.’
