Joyce Walters Gordon, 85, died on November 14, 2019 in Danville. Born on February 13, 1934 in Harrodsburg, KY to the late Bert S. and Ada McMurry Walters, she graduated from Harrodsburg High then headed to college at the University of Kentucky, graduating with an Education degree in English and History, and a minor in Psychology. Later, she earned her Master’s degree in Guidance Counseling. Joyce was a teacher for 35+ years in the Danville City Schools, teaching first at the high school and then to Bate Middle. Upon retirement she subbed at Boyle County High. She was very active in the NEA and KEA, holding leadership positions and attending countless conferences. She loved teaching and is described as firm but fair by many former students. She always saw potential in people and was always one to encourage. She was a member at the Danville Presbyterian Church, serving at one time in the Stephen’s ministry with her husband. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, the late Neal “Shotgun” Gordon; and a brother, Lowell T. Walters.
She is survived by her son, Robert Bruce Gordon (Schelle) and daughter, Leslie Gordon Kehr (Kent); six grandchildren: Elyse Warlick (Tanner) and Brittany Robbins (Brad), Johnny Kehr (Rachel Ison), Shelby, Lucy, and Maggie Kehr, and four-great granddaughters, Lula and Porter Rose Warlick, Bryce and Beckett Robbins; and two sisters, Margaret E. Williams and Frieda Jerrell.
Visitation will after 4 pm on Wednesday November 20, 2019 at Stith Funeral Home in Danville. The graveside service will be 12:30 pm, Thursday November 21, 2019 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Dr. Eric Mount will officiate. Memorial donations are suggested to Danville High School Scholarship.

Graveside Service: 12:30 pm, Thursday November 21, 2019 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery
I am a first cousin, the son of Elmer Walters who was a brother to Uncle Bert Walters (Joyce\’s father). Joyce\’s brother, Lowell Thomas Walters was my \’Best Man\’ at Vicki Ransdell\’s and my Wedding there in Ebenezer, Ky. Neal Gordon was a tobacco buyer at the Ransdell Family Tobacco Warehouse, there in Harrodsburg, Ky. Rest in peace Joyce and know that you were loved, and will be missed. Respectfully, bobby
