Joseph Michael Marincel

Joseph Marincel of Walkers Trail in Danville passed into his eternal rest on Christmas Day. He was surrounded in his final days and hours by his wife, Marlys, and three of his children.

Born the third child of Croatian immigrant parents at Mountain Iron, Minnesota, in May 1931, he was raised in a difficult post-depression time in a harsh environment surrounded by loving siblings and cousins after his parent’s death while still a young boy. His brother went on to the priesthood and his sister a nun. Throughout his life, he repeatedly returned with his family to the Iron Range to visit family members both living and in the cemetery.

Joe served in the Air Force before attending the University of Minnesota and graduating with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. While at the University, he met Marlys Hayes at the Newman Center, and they married in 1957. Over the next 67 years, they built a family of six children, 18 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

As a metallurgical engineer, he took the family and Marlys to live and work in Chile, the Upper Penninsula of Michigan, Colorado, Idaho, Wisconsin, the Dominican Republic, Arizona, Minnesota, Texas, and Kentucky. A loyal supporter of Boyle County athletics, he was a mainstay from the football and soccer stadium to the basketball and volleyball court to his lawn chair at baseball and softball games.

His Catholic identity was the primary foundation in his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and served on the board of the local crisis pregnancy center. He attended daily Mass and supported numerous charitable organizations. He taught his family about faith, love and sacrifice and was always encouraging to his kids and grandkids.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2024, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Danville, Kentucky

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Rest in Peace my Brother. You were one in a million. I keep thinking of you and my cousin “Marley” and I only heard about your passing today. I will always remember the times we had when we went fishing together. We didn’t get to do it often enough. Myself and my Brother Knights will be sending prayers for You, Marlys and the entire family. Love in God, Our Father.
