Johnetta Gibson

johnetta gibson

December 10, 1931 ~ December 15, 2025

Johnetta Ray Gibson, 94, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, surrounded by love. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness and strength touched everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Arnold Gibson and her sisters, Dorothy Long, Daisy Chance and Patsy Ray.
Born on December 10, 1931, to the late Ida and Abner Ray in Lancaster, KY, she lived a life rooted in family, faith, and generosity. She had a special way of making people feel welcomed and loved, whether through her warm smile, thoughtful words, or the care she showed in everyday moments. Johnetta retired from Inter County RECC and was a devoted member of First Christian  Church, where she served as a deacon, elder, and was President of the Christian  Women’s Fellowship (CWF) for many years. In her spare time, Johnetta enjoyed playing bridge, cheering on the Kentucky Wildcat basketball team, and spending time with her friends.
Family was the center of her world, and she took great pride in each generation that followed her. She is survived by her children, Janice Gideon and Barry (Dianna) Gibson; grandchildren (who affectionately called her Gaga) Paige Brummett, Sean (Sara) Stevens, Max (Wendi) Gideon and Megan (Jake Ramsey) Travis; and great grand children Chase and Banks Brummett; Haley, Sylas, Gracie, and Nya Stevens; Tucker and Bryce Gideon; and Asher Travis.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2025, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville, with Rev. Colby Smith officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2025, prior to the service. Burial will be with her husband in Lancaster Cemetery.
