Joanne Taylor
October 5, 1944 ~ August 22, 2026
Joanne Dale Taylor, 81, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 22, 2026 at her home in Danville.
Joanne was born on October 5, 1944 to Otis and Ollie King. She was the second youngest of 13 children raised on a tobacco farm in Lincoln County, KY. Her family were sharecroppers, and those early days of her life embodied hard work and instilled family values that would be a core theme throughout her lifetime.
She married the love of her life Raymond Taylor in December 1969 and together they raised their five children from previous marriages. They eventually settled in Danville, spending 40 happy years together before his passing in 2008. Joanne and Ray attended Victory Christian Church in Lancaster, where they were members of the Gospel Group ‘Witness’.
Joanne loved spending time volunteering at her church and others in the community, through various fundraisers and donation campaigns. She frequently looked out for those in need; it was not uncommon to see a stranger at a Christmas or Thanksgiving meal – she would often invite friends over that had nowhere else to go. In her later years she helped care for friends and acquaintances that were sick or in need, often travelling long distances doing so.
Her home on Baughman Ave. in Danville was a gathering place for family and friends. You never needed an invitation, the door was always open and all were welcome. Visitors would come and go throughout the day, sitting to enjoy a cup of coffee, to catch up, or to just enjoy the company she offered.
Those who knew her remember a fierce woman who was not afraid to call things like she saw them. They remember her love of God and Family, and how she cared for others in need.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Taylor in 2008. She is survived by her five children – Otis Turner of Danville, Renee (Lynn) Christison of Danville, Sonja Hazel of Danville, Billy (Joanne) Taylor of Indiana, and Christine Vaughan; nine grandchildren – Toshia Sindeff, Leslie-Jo Ashby, Rachael Vaughan, Chelsea Christison, Jacob Christison, Cody Christison, David Taylor, Tim Taylor, and Christopher Vaughan, as well as 13 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on August, 28 , 2026 at Stith Funeral Home in Junction City. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. that same day. Burial will be at Danville Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers or gifts we ask you make a contribution to Heritage Hospice in Danville.
