Jerry C Hunn
January 3, 1968 ~ November 8, 2021
On Monday, November 8th, 2021, at his home surrounded by loved ones in Henderson, Kentucky, God spoke and called Jerry Collins Hunn to his heavenly home. Jerry was born January 3, 1968, in Danville, Kentucky to James (Jimmy) Lewis and Ethel Louise Hunn and was married to Leslie Hunn for over fourteen years.
He served his country in both the United States Army and United States Marine Corps. Through the armed forces, he was able to travel the world- and he loved to tell all the crazy stories from that time.
Jerry’s life truly reflected God’s love, grace, and redemption. Saved while incarcerated, his encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ, compelled him to live a life free from religious bondage and tradition. He challenged all those who loved Jesus, to experience the freedom that only comes from knowing Jesus personally and being submitted to His will. His compassion and “fire” for Jesus impacted so many lives as he ministered about his mistakes and failures, and the assurance that God forgives and changes lives. He enjoyed taking the Word of God “to the streets” and ministering to others whose lives were impacted by drugs, sexual abuse, violence, and incarceration, all of which he overcame by the Grace of God.
While ministering at a tent revival, he met the love of his life, Leslie, whom he affectionately called “Momma Bear.” Through this relationship, God redeemed and restored to him Children- CaJuan, Christa and Courtney “Precious” who loved him fiercely and unconditionally. The power of God transformed him and he turned out to be an amazing father. Through his life, he carried many titles but he was most proud to be called “Grandpa”.
Jerry was a jack of all trades. He started two different businesses, landscaping and happy hands power washing. He spent many weeks ministering in the prison system to men searching for true freedom . Prior to his battle with cancer he started and pastored a church with an amazing youth ministry that touched many lives.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his father and mother, James and Ethel Hunn; his wife, Leslie Hunn; three sons, five daughters, one with whom he shared a very special relationship with Jamiela Logan; and a special son-in-law, Timothy Ferguson; three brothers, Anthony, Jeffery, and James Hunn; one sister, Andromedia Warner; nine grandchildren; five aunts, including Dorothy Napier who was more like a second mother; one uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, “adopted” children, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles Collins and Mary Hunn; and his maternal grandparents, Morris Augusta and Ollie Mae Napier, and several aunts and uncles. Please sign the online guestbook and send a Hug from Home.
Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. James AME Church, Danville, Kentucky
