George L. Cox, Jr., 93, died Thursday, February 1, 2018. He was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on January 31, 1925 to the late George Leo and Estelle Griner Cox.  George was a decorated WWII Veteran participating in 23 bombing missions in the European Theater as a bombardier in the B-26 Martin-Marauder. After 20 years’ service, he retired as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Airforce, and later he retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Boston, MA. George was an active member of the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Danville, and a member of the American Legion Post, Stanford, KY.   He is survived by his wife, Louise Casey Cox of Danville, KY; one brother, Robert (Lorraine) Cox of Newton, Massachusetts; three sons, George (Kathy) Cox of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Stephen (Celia) Cox of Atlanta, Georgia, and Joseph (Susan) Cox of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; four daughters, Madeline Cox of Revere, Massachusetts, Peggy (Ron) Tudor of Lancaster, KY, Nancy (Kent) Glines of Lexington, KY, and Dian (Garry) Baker of Francestown, New Hampshire ; twenty-seven grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife, Louise Gomes Cox, three sisters, and one brother,   The funeral mass will be at 1pm, Saturday, February 10, 2018, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Danville.  The Celebrant will be Father Alan Carter. The Reverend Jane Love, pastor of The Presbyterian Church, will also participate in the service. Pall bearers will be grandsons, Brian Cox, Justin Campbell, Adam Stocker and Clay Stocker, with Honorary Pall Bearers Chris Roller and Ron Tudor. Interment will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.  Visitation will be 11am-1pm, Saturday, prior to the mass at the church.  Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Saufley Post #18.  Memorial donations are suggested to Heritage Hospice or Danville-Boyle Co. Humane Society. Visitation:  11am-1pm, Saturday, prior to the mass at the church Funeral Mass:  1pm, Saturday, February 10, 2018, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Danville Interment:  Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne

  2. Dear Louise, Joe and family; I was so saddened to learn of George\’s passing. He fought hard to remain with you these past few weeks. I so enjoyed our visits at Sue and Joe\’s over the years, although too few and far between. As with my dad and the Cox sons, he proudly served his country and was devoted to his Church and you. Your time with him is never enough but you two found each other and had much happiness in your years together. The grandchildren have good role models to aspire to. I\’m sorry I can\’t be there in person to pay my respects but hope to see you in Massachusetts when George is laid to rest. With prayers and heartfelt sorrow. Martha Lyons
