Garry Stevens, 77, of Danville passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 27 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington. Born on October 19, 1947 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Eugene Stevens and the late Mary Frances Cannon Stevens. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie Vermillion Stevens, two sons, Shawn (Heather) Stevens of Indianapolis, Indiana and Jeremy (Becky) Stevens of Danville, three grandchildren, Gracie, Brayden, and Audrie Stevens, one brother, Larry Stevens of Junction City, three sisters-in-law, Karen (John) Caddell, Ann Stevens, and Sharon Stevens, and  nine nieces and nephews.

Garry was a Vietnam Army veteran. He retired from General Telephone Company, and later started his own business, Stevens Construction, and was a licensed electrician. He was a former member of  Junction City Christian Church and a current member of The Carpenter’s Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. He formerly served on the Junction City Council and was instrumental in establishing the Junction City Park. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and a former member of KY Bass Club.

Garry was devoted to his family and loved them dearly. He was always proud of them and treasured the time together. His faith in God was very important to him and he passed that on to his family. Garry had a giving heart and enjoyed helping others. He also took great pride in his country.

In addition to his parents, Garry was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Stevens and Ray Stevens, one sister-in-law, Brenda Stevens, a niece, Mary Stevens, and in-laws John and Hester Vermillion.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 4-7 at The Carpenter’s Christian Church, 1340 US HWY 127 Bypass, Harrodsburg. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 11 AM also at the church with Greg Warren and John Kesel officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Pallbearers will be Shawn, Jeremy, Brayden, David, and Steve Stevens, Dennis Harris, Matthew and Dylan Caddell, and Mike Kondik. Honorary pallbearers will be Heather, Becky, Gracie, and Audrie Stevens, Randy Ledford, Spirit Lifters, Delmer Warren’s small group, and the Joy Sunday School class.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Jude Research Hospital, The Carpenter’s Christian Church, and Junction City Christian Church.

The family would  like to show sincere appreciation to the staff of VA Medical Center for the excellent care they gave to Garry.
