Evelyn Layer-Stokes, 82 of Danville passed away peacefully at Landmark of Danville. Born on April 25, 1942, in Maxey Valley, Kentucky to the late Forest and Mary Passmore Brown. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Zilpha Brown Singleton, Pauline Brown Hale, Dewey Brown, Hubert Brown, Lewis Brown, and Jerry Dean Brown.
Evelyn was a dedicated and hardworking woman who always provided for her family. She was known for her sweet smile, kind heart, and love for shopping and lunch outings with her sisters. Evelyn is a beloved member of McKinney Baptist Church. She was also an awesome cook and enjoyed cooking for her family.
Evelyn will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, faith, and warm and caring nature. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Evelyn leaves behind her daughter, Sandra (Gary) Young-Owens, and her son Anthony (Renee) Layer who will deeply miss her. She adored her very special granddaughter, Kaitlyn Renee Layer, and is also survived by her sisters Virginia Hale and Jeanie Young, her step-daughter Debie (Charles) Burton, step-grandchildren Chad Burton, Taylor Foster, Lucas Simpson, Hagan Simpson, Taryn Owens Kruer, and Step Great grandchildren Abigail, Eleanor, Grant, Laney, Colin, and Taylor along with many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, faith, and warm and caring nature.
The funeral service to honor and remember Evelyn Stokes will be at 2 pm, Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Stith Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. David Gambrel officiating. A visitation will precede the service at 11:00 until the time of service, Thursday at Stith Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Anthony Layer, Gary Owens, Mark Brown, Rodney Brown, Ronnie Brown, and Scott Rhoades. Honorary pallbearers will be the Landmark Nursing Home Nurses, Nurses Aides, and staff. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.
She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Evelyn was always fiesty with me in the short amount of time I knew her but I will forever be thankful for the laughs she gave me. My heart is with her family. Rest in peace sweet angel.
