Edgar Lee McElroy

Edgar Lee McElroy Sr., 75, died Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born to the late James Franklin and Ovie Chambers McElroy on October 9, 1947, in Kentucky where he lived all his life. He was a former trucker driver and a United States Navy veteran. While serving in the Navy, Edgar received medals and honors which included the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Purple Heart Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation and a member of The National Guard. Edgar was a believer of the Christian faith and attended the Salvation Army Church.
He is predeceased by his wife, Rosalie Burton McElroy; son, Harold Franklin McElroy; grandson, Dustin Ray McElroy; siblings, Thelma Preston, Cecil McElroy, Frank McElroy, Johnny McElroy, Paul McElroy, Gilbert McElroy, Joyce Ann McElroy, and Claribel McElroy.
Edgar is survived by his son, Edgar \"Eddie\" Lee (Glennita) McElroy Jr.; daughters, Thelma Jean McElroy (Travis) Blackburn and Donna Michelle (Saul) McElroy Ramos; brothers, Kenneth McElroy, and Bobby McElroy; sisters, Mary (Roy) Hargis and Maria Preston. Also surviving Edgar are his grandchildren, Regina M. (Michael) Condon, Jesse A. (Sarah) Devine, Charles A. Baker, Suesanne R. Mathews, Shelbi C. Mathews, Juan H. Franklin, and Annabelle V. Ramos; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Hailey, Kaleb, Cain, Braxton, Jeremiah, and Charlea as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville, Kentucky.
The service will begin at 1 p.m. following the visitation also at Stith Funeral Home in Danville.
Burial will take place at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the United States Navy, American Legion, Caswell-Saufley Post #18, and the Kentucky National Color Guard.

Visitation: 11am - 1pm, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.
Service: 1pm, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.
Burial: Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

I knew Edgar many years ago. We were in the same classes in grade school, and he was always a nice, kind, young man. He always be part of great memories.
