Dr. John Thomas “Tom” Ross, 81, died November 3, 2021, in Danville, Kentucky. Born July 16, 1940, in Clark County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Roger Frank and Frances Bower Ross. Tom was a veterinarian for 55 years and was the owner of The Animal Clinic in Danville, practicing small and large animal medicine. After selling The Animal Clinic, Tom practiced large animal medicine, and worked as Stockyards Veterinarian for the Somerset Stockyards until his death. Tom received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University. He was a founding member of the Boyle County Chapter of The FFA Alumni Association, also serving as President and Treasurer. Tom was a founding member of the Boyle Co. Chapter and Regional Director of Ducks Unlimited. He was a lifetime member of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association. Tom was a member of the Mule & Donkey Association, the Boyle County Goose Hunting Club, Rotary Club and the Shrine Temple Jesters. He loved to fish, hunt, and trail ride, work with young people and to spend time with family. Tom always planted a large vegetable garden, which he harvested, canned, and always shared his abundance with others. He prepared his special recipes for every family gathering. Tom wanted his Legacy to be “Mentoring the next generation, that they may be a little better than the last.” Dr. Ross is predeceased by his son, John Thomas Ross, Jr., and brothers, Roger Ross and James Ross. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Jerlyn Sue Ross; daughter, Heather (Tommy) Ross Lester; son, Thad Hunter Ross; and grandchildren, Madelaine (Bob) Sindorf, Ross (Annie) Nolan; and Emma Nolan and great-grandchild, Nicholas Sindorf; sisters, Kaye (Dave) Nascimbeni and Sue (John) Litkenhus. Visitation will be held from 12 – 3 pm, with Memorial Service at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Perryville United Methodist Church, 206 E. 2nd St., Perryville, Kentucky. Rev. Doug Lester will officiate. Memorial donations are suggested to the Boyle County FFA Alumni Scholarship Fund, 1637 Perryville Road, Danville, Kentucky 40422 or Danville Boyle Humane Society, P.O.   4. I\\\’m sorry to hear about the passing of Dr Ross. I was one of the next generation of Vets that he helped mentor. I worked for Dr Ross at the Somerset Stockyards. He was a great mentor to me, and helped prepare me for my future as a Vet. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ross family.

  5. So sorry to hear of Toms passing. Tom worked a lot of cattle for us and eat a lot of meals at our home. He was a special friend and we are so saddened to hear of this. Prayers for the family.
