Carol Lay Hasty, 79, of Lancaster, died December 12, 2025. She was born on July 22, 1946, in Danville, Kentucky, to the late Arnold T. Lay and Cleo Litton Lay Courtney. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by two grandsons, Joshua Montgomery and Hunter Montgomery, her sister Ruth Huffman, and her brothers Maynard Lay, James Lay, and Gerald Lay.

Carol leaves a vibrant legacy filled with love and dedication. Throughout her life, Carol found joy in simple pleasures, including gardening and fishing, and was known for her infectious love of music, often sharing her talent as a drummer. Her spirit was full of life, and she enriched the lives of those around her with her hard-working nature and kind heart.

Carol was a beloved wife to Donald “Donnie” Hasty and a devoted mother to her children: John (Crystal) Montgomery, Eddie (Jennifer) Montgomery, and Becky Montgomery. She was also a cherished grandmother to Reba Collier (Joshua), Dillon (Shayla) Carmichael, Allen (Kayleigh) Whitaker, Madison (Travis) Denning, Walker (Krista) Montgomery, Kevin (Emilee) Montgomery, William Montgomery, and Hunter (Taylor) Tovornik, her great-grandchildren Layne, Eli, Jake, Madi, Saylor, Mox, Raylan, Ryder, Charlotte, Mason, Mia, Brooks, and one on the way, her brother, Billy (Betty) Lay, and several nieces and nephews.

The family invites friends and loved ones to gather to celebrate Carol’s life from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Stith Funeral Home in Danville.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Garrard County Animal Shelter.

She will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

  5. I am so very sorry. I just put a post on John Michael’s page yesterday about how sweet she always was to me. I had no idea she had passed. She was so proud of all her children. We made so many memories back in the day at Cecil Lane’s and other places where I sang and they had their band. Sending love and sympathy. RIP sweet Snookie.

  6. Carol was so kind and non- judgemental. She loved her kids, grandkids and husband fiercely. I am so thankful she was Josh’s Nanny. He loved her and Donnie so much. I feel so blessed to have known her and I will miss her terribly. I find comfort in the fact that she has reunited with her grandsons. Love to Becky, Donnie, John, Kevin and all of her grandchildren.   13. So sorry for your loss. Mrs Carol was a very sweet lady. My uncle Russ was their neighbor and he took me to meet her. When we got there she came from under the house where she was putting insulation. She welcomed me into her home just like family. Me being a fan of both her boys. She told me some stories of them growing up. She always talked to me and my mom when we would see her at a show. Heaven gained a beautiful angel.

Carol was such a beautiful lady she had such a big inspiration in my life growing up as a child one night she told me she wanted to take me home so I went home asked my momma if I could go live with her momma told me no and carol told me she wanted to have a Gil that looked like me one day and she did have a beautiful daughter that we do favor a lot sure miss this precious lady and I have precious memories of carol growing up watching her play at the Howard Theater gone but never for gotten love you carol always in my heart and mind for your such a Angle spread your wings and fly high be are guiding light for us all
