Bernard “Duchy” Vincent Brant, 85 of Danville died on January 2, 2024, at the age of 85. He was born on November 26, 1938, in Danville, Kentucky to the late Bernard “Shorty” and Frances Toombs Brant. Bernard dedicated his life to education, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many.

Bernard was a 1957 graduate of Danville High School and went on to pursue higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Kentucky University in 1962. ”Duchy” earned his Masters at Western Kentucky University in 1964 and his Rank 1 at Murray in 1977.

His passion for teaching led him to become a respected and admired teacher, instilling knowledge and values in his students over the years.

He taught at Providence High School, Providence Ky from 1962 to 1964 as the assistant football and basketball coach and was Head baseball coach.  From 1964 to 1967, he was the assistant football and basketball coach at Boyle Co High School and from 1967 to 1980 he taught at Madisonville High School and was an assistant football coach and from 1973 to 1976 he was the head golf and football coach.  From 1980 to 1998 he was the assistant football coach, Head girls basketball coach for 6 years, and the head golf coach at Danville High School.

He found particular joy in coaching various sports including football, basketball, and golf for boys and girls. Coach Brant\’s dedication and commitment extended beyond the classroom as he also joined the Centre College staff as the Assistant Football coach in 1990, leaving an indelible mark on the aspiring athletes he mentored for many years.

Outside of his professional life, Bernard was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Perryville, where he found solace and faith. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School at McDowell Place in recent years. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Mary Elizabeth Akin, Felix Brant, and Lee Brant.

He cherished spending time with his beloved daughter, Johnna Brant of Nashville, with whom he shared a strong and loving bond and his nephew Todd Gosser of Florida.

A celebration of life will be held 11 am – 2 pm, Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the cafeteria of Danville High School in Danville, Kentucky, where family, friends, and members of the community will come together to honor and celebrate his life.

Bernard “Duchy” Brant will be remembered as a dedicated educator, devoted father, and treasured member of the community. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and inspired.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Danville-Boyle County Parks and Recreation Department – Youth Sports in Coach Brant’s memory.
