Charles "Charlie" Rodes
April 9, 1931 ~ January 16, 2026
Charles Owsley Rodes, age 94, passed away on January 16, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Clare Pfeiffer Rodes. Born on April 9, 1931 in Danville, KY, to the late Nelson D. and Mary McDowell Rodes. Charlie was a proud graduate of McCallie School and Cornell University. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1954-57 as a gunnery and torpedo officer of the U.S.S. Knapp. Charlie then embarked on his lifelong career working for Procter & Gamble for 39 years, the last being spent in Kobe, Japan overseeing the construction of the Asian Intl Headquarters.
Charlie loved the game of golf and played often at the Camargo Club in Cincinnati. Once retiring, he built homes at beautiful Crystal Downs in Frankfort, MI and Black Diamond in LeCanto, FL and played golf as often as possible.
Charlie also had a love of trees. Upon retiring, he personally spent several years creating 5 amazing walking trails in Michigan through the woods of Crystal Downs, and developed a printed trail guide that identified numerous trees. The trails are greatly enjoyed by many in the area.
He is survived by his wife Clare Rodes; his daughter Margaret (John) Plowdrey, his son, Scott Rodes, his daughter Holly (Randy) Smithey, grandchildren Stephen, Bryan, Erin, Tara, and Daniel, and several nieces and nephews.
A private family service was held.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Cincinnati are greatly appreciated.
