Janice Gritton Cocanougher

April 1, 1942 ~ March 23, 2025
Janice Gritton Cocanougher, 82, of Danville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025. Born on April 1, 1942, in Danville, to the late Elmer and Bernice Gritton, she was a lifelong resident of the area and will be remembered for her warm heart and deep love for her family. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, David E. Cocanougher, and her brother, Jack Gritton.
Janice was a dedicated travel agent, helping countless people create lasting memories through their journeys. However, her true passion lay in her family. She loved cooking for her family, always relishing the time spent gathered around the dinner table with her loved ones. A proud grandmother and great-grandmother, she adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them and showed up for their events and accomplishments. Her love for family extended to all those around her, embodying an open and welcoming spirit that drew people in.
A faithful believer, Janice loved the Lord and found comfort in her faith, knowing she would one day reunite with her loved ones in Heaven. In her downtime, she found great joy in reading, particularly history and biographies, and she could often be found with a book in hand.
She is survived by her daughters Cynthia (Paul) Hutt, Susan (Shawn) Silliman, and Sandy (Derek) Inouye, her grandchildren Clint (Caitlin) McCrystal, Sarah (William) Roberts, Jacob (Jessica) Silliman, Erin Inouye, Adam Inouye, Jed (Michelle) Hutt, and Elizabeth (Patrick) Kelly, her great-grandchidren Dominic, Cali, Wyatt, Henry, Brooklynn, Evelyn, Jordie, and Collin, her sisters in law Patricia Gritton and Ann Cocanougher, and her cousin William “Billy” (Libby) Carey, II.

Mary and I are so sorry to hear of Janice passing. We did not see her often, except occasionally on FB. She was a wonderful Wife, Momma and friend. We offer prayers for Cindy, Sandy, and Susan and all her family.
Hi to the daughters of Janice. I knew your Mother many years ago when we first moved to Danville. My husband, Hugh and I went to church with your Father and Mother at FBD. We had many good times at Sunday School functions. We did not know anyone in Danville and they made us feel welcome. We moved a couple of years later. A few months ago I reconnected with her on FB but I did not know of her illness. I still stay in contact with Jan Campbell.
I am so sorry for your loss. She was a lovely kind person. I will keep all of you in prayer along with your families. May God comfort each of you. Linda Ward
