Stewart McDermott Jr.

Stewart McDermott, 90, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died on March 12, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on July 22, 1934, in Parksville to the late Stewart and Dollie Deskins McDermott. Stewart lived a life dedicated to hard work and his family.

Stewart began his career as a crane operator before becoming an accomplished bridge builder. He took immense pride in his work, particularly during his time with the Boyle County Road Department, where he was a key figure in constructing the iconic covered bridge at Millennium Park. His contributions to the community will always be remembered, reflecting his passion for creating and constructing in a way that would benefit future generations.
In addition to his career, Stewart was an active member of the Cattlemans Association, where he fostered connections with fellow farmers and community members. He loved sharing stories and experiences with friends and family and was always eager to lend a helping hand.
Stewart’s greatest joy in life was his family. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, instilling in them the values of hard work, dedication, and compassion. His warm smile and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Stewart is survived by his wife of 65 years Leorita “Sissy” McDermott, his children Debbie (Roger) Webb, Charles (Kim) McDermott, and Jon McDermott, his grandchildren Aubrey (Donald) Wilson, Christopher (Caitlyn) Webb, Tiffany (Nate) Fuqua, his great-grandchildren Natalie Fuqua and Webb Fuqua, and his sister Wanda Hafley.

The funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville, with Rev. Jimmie McPherson officiating. The visitation was from 11 am until 1 pm prior to the service at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. The pallbearers will be Jon McDermott, Christopher Webb, Henry Clarkson, Terry Roney, Perry Roney, and Jerry Little. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Leffew, Butch Crain, Donald Wilson, Nate Fuqua, Roger Webb, Buck Sawyer and Ron Russell. The burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested to Mitchellsburg Baptist Church or Millenium Park.

A special thanks to Dr. Thomas C. Jackson, Dr. David Overstreet, Dr. Joseph Valentino, and Dr. Salli Slone for all the great care they have given us over the last few years; it meant the world to us.

Stewart’s spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his contributions will continue to be felt in our community for years to come.
