John Walker Bradshaw

John Walker Bradshaw, 77, of Danville, died Sunday, November 18, 2018. He was born July 4, 1941 in Danville, KY and raised in Huntingburg and Bloomington, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, T.W. and Ruth Arnold Bradshaw, and brother, Leslie Bradshaw. Survived by wife of 49 years, Janet Coplen Bradshaw; sons, Clark Arnold Bradshaw (Amy) of Nicholasville and Alan Coplen Bradshaw (Melissa) of Richmond; grandchildren, Mac Bradshaw, Kyle Bradshaw, and Callie Bradshaw, like-grandchildren Isabella Norwood and Madi Davis, nieces Susan Elizabeth DiPasquale (Ruslan), Mary Margaret Bradshaw, nephew Eric Bradshaw (Suzanne); and step-sister Susan Haefling Purnell. John graduated from Indiana University with bachelors and master’s degrees from the schools of business and education. He was captain of the IU Rifle Team, earning his college letter sweater. Although he was proud of his I-Men’s Association membership he thoroughly enjoyed Kentucky basketball. In 1968, he began his 34-year career at KSD, serving as the first Dean of Students, teaching Traffic and Safety Education, Computer Science and STLP. He was recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award presented by the KY Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association. He also served as a member of the IT department, assisting teachers with technology. John often volunteered his time helping with Cub Scouts, Odyssey of the Mind competitions and innumerable KSD activities. In retirement, John refurbished over 500 computer systems, donating them to churches, non-profits and other worthy endeavors. Ever the teacher, he established a computer lab at Danville First Christian Church where he taught computer skills to senior adults for 10 years. He served Danville First Christian Church in a variety of programs, including serving as a Deacon for over 45 years. John was known for his quick smile and witty sense of humor. He loved his family, his KSD family and his church family. The funeral service will be 1 p.m., Monday, November 26, 2018 at First Christian Church. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, November 25, 2018 at First Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in John’s memory to the First Christian Church of Danville or KY Adapt (Assisting Deaf Adults to Participate Totally).
