William (Bill) Morton Gulley, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 26, 2021. He was born in Sharpsburg, Kentucky on January 19, 1935 to the late Virgil and Marjorie McKenzie Gulley.

Bill was a graduate of Kentucky School for the Deaf in 1956. He worked on his family’s farm with his father until he started working at Genesco as a Leather Shoe Cutter from 1965 to 1970. He worked as a Gas Meter Reader at Western Kentucky Gas Company/Atmos Energy from 1970 until his retirement in 1995.

He absolutely loved his family and was a loving husband, son, father, grandpa, father-in-law, uncle, and brother. He loved traveling with his loving wife Carolyn, being around his friends, teasing people, calling each of his lady friends his “sweetheart,” playing poker with his Midas touch, playing golf, working in the yard, and bowling of which he won many trophies from playing in the bowling league at Bowlarama and in many deaf bowling tournaments.

He was a member of Kentucky School for the Deaf Alumni Association (Hall of Fame as a Leader), Kentucky Association of the Deaf, National Association of the Deaf, National Fraternal Society of the Deaf/ Catholic Order of Foresters (Officer positions & Hall of Fame), Dixie Deaf Bowling Association (Hall of Fame). He was a Kentucky Colonel. He volunteered selling tickets at Kentucky School for the Deaf’s athletic events. He enjoyed being involved in his children and grandchildren’s school sporting events and academic successes.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by a daughter Pamela Sue Gulley; a sister, Barbara Gulley Furr; and a brother-in-law, Floyd Furr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn Gulley; his daughter, Amy (Billy) Lange; his son, Billy Gulley Jr.; his two grandchildren, Brooke Lange and Kyle (Skylor Singleton) Lange; his nephew, Glenn (Carol) Furr; great niece, Laura (Chris) Chittum; great nephew, John Furr and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Stith Funeral Home in Danville. A NFSD/COF Ritual will be at 7:30 p.m. during the visitation. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., September 30, 2021 at Stith Funeral Home in Danville. Rev. Jack Williamson will officiate.

Bill was a huge University of Kentucky fan! Please wear UK attire or wear something blue & white during the visitation and the funeral service. He would love it!

The family gratefully acknowledges the wonderful care of Dr. Richard Hempel and his Staff, Bo Eppinghoff and the McDowell Rehabilitation Services Staff, Heritage Hospice, Interpreters from the Central Kentucky Interpreter Referral, Interpreters from the Kentucky School for the Deaf Interpreting Department and Stith Funeral Home.
