Mary Lynn Knudson Petry, 73, died Tuesday, March 8, 2022, in Wendell, North Carolina. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 31, 1948, to the late Andy and Jean Ognibene Knudson.

Mary earned her undergrad degree (Bachelors of math 1987) and Master of Arts in (MATH) Education (1990) at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Ky. She taught at EKU for 3 years, and HS for about 4 years. Mary started teaching mathematics at Somerset Community College and later became Manager of Disabilities Services. In addition to this, she served the Catholic Diocese of Lexington’s Ministry to Persons with Disabilities from 1992 to 2019. She was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of KYAHEAD (KY Association on Higher Education and Disability), was on the board of KYAHEAD. Her accomplishments were read on the floor of the Kentucky Senate. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Joseph R. Petry.

She is survived by her children, Carol Cook (Troy) of Danville, KY, Joseph Petry (Christopher) of Wendell, North Carolina; grandchildren, Anna Miller (David), Carl Holland and Christopher Cook (Michelle).

The funeral mass will be held at 12pm, Thursday, March 31, 2022, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Danville. Father Anthony McLaughlin and Father Norman Fisher will be the celebrants. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 7pm – 9pm, Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Stith Funeral Home in Danville.
