Jean Arden Neikirk Holmes passed peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 3, 2023, surrounded by love.

Born November 3, 1952, to the late Christine and Adam Neikirk, she was the youngest of four siblings. Preceding her in death and welcoming her to her forever home were both parents, brothers, Paul and David Neikirk, a sister Jorene Brewer, and a niece, Renee Neikirk.

Jean leaves behind her loving husband of forty years, David Holmes III, her daughter, Camille Holmes, and a son David “DW” Holmes IV (Tara). Granddaughters, Cori Holmes and Allie Steele and a grandson, David “Warren” Holmes V.

Instead of listing the typical life history and accomplishments, let us remember her love, as there was nothing typical about her. She was a mother and grandmother through and through. Her joy came from making her family and friends happy. Whether it be an overly extravagant Christmas tree that wasn’t finished being decorated until New Year’s Eve or running two hours late to Thanksgiving dinner because she had to arrange the marshmallows on her sweet potato casserole perfectly, it was done out of love.

She found beauty and potential in everything and everyone. So may we remember Jean when looking out at the sunset, in a good deal at Goodwill that could be a really cool project you’ll never get done, a unique piece of jewelry, a bite of something cheesy, or a whiff of Patchouli. Remember her smile and her warmth, as that was what she longed to offer to anyone she loved.

A gathering of friends will be 4 – 6 p.m., Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.
