James William Lawson, 85, died Monday, November 26, 2018. He was born April 11, 1933 in Danville to the late Martin and Sadie Lawson. A graduate of Parksville High School, he served in the Army during the Korean War. James retired in 1989 from IBM as a Department Technician. James was a member of Indian Hills Christian Church and had a life long love for trail riding his horses with a group of friends, “Professor’s Gaiting Rough Riders”. He loved old cars, especially his 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne.

He was survived by his wife of 66 years, Celesta Nevius Lawson; a daughter, Alycea (Michael) Pittman of Danville and a son, Marty (Kim) Lawson of Locust, NC; sisters, Barbara (the late Jess) Overstreet of Danville and Martha (Jimmy) Caudill of Stanford; grandchildren, Whitney Pittman, Tyler (Merideth) Pittman, Rachel (Stephen) Barnett, Sara (Bryan) Cranford, Rebekah (Jason) Johnson, Adam (Jessica) Lawson and seventeen great-grandchildren, Kaeden Ford, Sawyer Pittman, Aniston Pittman, London Cranford, Nolan Cranford, Zoie Cranford, Elsie Cranford, Mariam Cranford, Abe Cranford, Ephrum Cranford, Genesis Cranford, Charlie Cranford, Jaleigh Johnson, Jose Taylor Johnson, Jentry Johnson, Georgia Lawson and Gianna Lawson.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Indian Hills Christian Church. Visitation will be 11 am – 2 pm, prior to service. Rev. Barry Harmon and Rev. Odis Clark will officiate. Memorial donations are suggested to Heritage Hospice.
