Horace Gifford, age 85, of Danville, KY passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY. He was born on January 6, 1933 in Middleburg, Casey County, KY to the late William Grey and Katherine Randolph Gifford. He joined the First Baptist Church of Danville in 1948 and was a member of the Andrew Sunday School Class. He was a 1951 graduate of Danville High School. Horace served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He was then employed by Corning Glass and worked there until his retirement. In addition to his parents, Horace was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Gifford Kennedy, his brother William Robert Gifford, his brother-in-law John, and his sister-in-law Marlene.

He is survived by four nieces: Lisa (Gary) Compton, Kathy (Bill) Clouse, Robyn (Allan) Cheuvront all of Somerset, KY and Kelly (Calvin) McFarland of Monticello, KY; seven great nephews: Aaron (Monica) Compton, Brett (Jennifer) Compton, Matthew Clouse, Andrew Clouse, Shea (Ashley) Cheuvront, Cameron Cheuvront, Alex McFarland, and one great niece, Katie McFarland.
He is also survived by four great-great nieces and two great-great nephews. Horace also leaves behind a loving friend and longtime companion, Reta Jewell of Hodgenville, KY and his faithful dog, Chipper.
He was considered Honorary Dad of Katrina (Terry) Ovesen of Hodgenville, KY, and Donald Jewell of Raywick, KY, special Papaw of grandsons J.D. Mathews of Russell Springs, KY and Jacob Ovesen of Germany.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2 pm at Stith Funeral Home in Danville, Kentucky with the Rev. Jerry Lester officiating. Burial will follow at the Hustonville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12pm until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Horace’s name to First Baptist Church, Danville, KY.
