Helen Smith Teaford, 96, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away August 8, 2018.  She was born in Parkers Lake, KY on August 10, 1921 to Sidney and Pearl Smith.  Helen graduated from Danville High School in Danville, KY in 1938. She attended Centre College in Danville, KY and graduated from The Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, OH in 1944.  She served in the Army Nurse Corps as Second Lieutenant in World War II where she received the Victory Medal.  She married Lloyd Teaford and moved to Garden City, GA where she worked as a registered nurse until they opened a hardware store, Wentworth Sales Co., and started a family.  She was married to Lloyd for 57 years until he died in 2004.

Helen is survived by her son Dr. Michael Teaford (Robert Benites) of Asheville, NC, daughters Dr. Patricia Teaford of Scottsdale, AZ and Jennie Starkel (Gregory Starkel) of St. Joseph, MO, granddaughters Dr. Rebecca Starkel Weninger (Brandon Weninger) of Chicago, IL, and Kimberly Starkel of Kansas City, MO, sisters Norma Buchanan of Danville, KY and Mimi Gordon of Danville, KY, brother Roger Smith (Francine Smith) of Hilton Head, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 1100 AM to 100 PM at Stith Funeral Home in Danville, KY.  Burial service will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY at 1:30 p.m.  Remembrances may be made in memory of Helen Teaford to Westminster Village Foundation at www.wmvaz.com or by check to Westminster Village Foundation at 12000 N. 90th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85260.
