Hazel Marie Hitchcock Farley, 97, of Danville, Kentucky, died, Monday, February 27, 2023. She was born July 4, 1925, to the late Carl Benjamin in Hitchcock and Vera Alice Smallridge in Gassaway, West Virginia. Hazel was the wife of 36 years to the late Kenneth Farley who passed away in 1987. Hazel and Kenneth started their marriage in Charleston, West Virginia and then moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1966. It was then that Hazel became a registered nurse at the VA Hospital working on the spinal cord injury ward until she retired in the early 1980’s. From their union, Hazel and Kenneth were blessed with two daughters. A few years after the passing of her husband Kenneth, Hazel moved to Lexington so that she could be closer to her daughters and their families. Her nursing career spanned over forty years including the years she worked in Charleston. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Along with being an avid reader, Hazel was very involved in the Presbyterian Circle, Pilot Club and an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Lexington. She was very blessed while she lived in Memphis to be able to travel extensively. Hazel passed away while living at Walkers Trail assisted living facility in Danville. She was loved by all who knew her.

She is predeceased by three of her four siblings, Gertrude, Ben and Patrecia, with Hazel being the middle child.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jo (Cliff) Baumbach and Patty (Mark) Ward of Danville, KY; brother, Ralph (Pat) Hitchcock of Valdosta, GA; grandchildren, Joe (Liz) Baumbach of Cincinnati, OH, Jennifer (David) Ahnquist of Danville, KY, Michael (Lindsey) Ward of Danville, KY, and Katie (Tanner) Burks of Lexington, KY.  Survivors also include her seven great-grandchildren, Presley, Elle, Ann Margaret, Bett, Ivy, Scarlett and Liam.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church, Lexington, KY. The service will begin after the visitation at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to Tunnel 2 Towers foundation, which provides housing for wounded veterans, firefighters, policemen and their families.
