George Julius Woods, 85, died January 7, 2023. He was born in Danville, Kentucky on August 7, 1937, to the late Julius Woods and Christine McFerren. In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his siblings, James Trumbo, Russell Washington, Pearline Elliott, Florence Elkins and Annabelle Washington Scheller and mother of his children, Lacy Meaux. George served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a private First Class. After discharge, George began his career as a Health Aide at the Kentucky State Hospital where he later became a Youth Facility Officer. During his tenure, George became a Correctional Lieutenant at Northpoint Training Center.

Antiquing was a big deal to George along with coin collecting. He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Watching basketball games was exciting for him with his love for the University of Louisville Cardinals and the Las Angeles Lakers. His favorite NFL team was the Kansas City Chiefs.

George is survived by his children, Shawn Julius Woods, Ashlie Alene Woods and Noah Harris Woods and grandson, Brayden Anderson, along with stepchildren, Vanessa Faulkner, Roxie Faulkner, Jonathan Faulkner, Glenda Granville, and LaShana Harris. He is also survived by the mother of his children Carol Harris Woods.

A private memorial service will be held Thursday, January 19 from 11 AM – 1 PM at First Baptist Church, 2nd and Walnut, Danville, KY. Inurnment will follow the service at 1:30 PM at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
