George Alpha “Tubby” Carpenter, 85, of Danville, died Saturday, February 18, 2023.  Born October 9, 1937, he was the son of the late Alpha R. Carpenter and Lottie Manning Carpenter.  He attended Danville High School and was a veteran of the United States Army.  He worked for Corning and later North American Phillips, from which he retired.  He was a member of the Church of God of Abrahamic Faith.  He was also a member of the AM-Vets, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Masonic Lodge #28 as well as the Oleika Shriners.  He also loved to fish, loved NASCAR, and traveling when he could.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Carpenter.

Survivors include his sons, Kevin Hoover, George Alan (Mellissa) Hoover, and daughters; Vivian Hoover (Tim) Parker and Arlene Hoover, all of Forest City, North Carolina; his sister, Linda (Kenneth “Porkchop”) Yocum, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The visitation will be Saturday, February 25th from 10:00am – 12:00pm, with the funeral service following at Stith Funeral Home, in Danville.  Brother Randy Yocum will officiate.  The burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. The pallbearers will be Alan Hoover, Kevin Hoover, Randy Yocum, and Kenneth Yocum. Serving as Honorary Pallbearer is lifetime friend, Landon Williams. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Heritage Hospice. The online guestbook is available at www.stithcares.com.
