Francis “Frank” David Mattingly, 68, died Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Frank was born on April 28, 1952 in Springfield to the late John and Lela Rose Mattingly. He worked in law enforcement for 35 years, serving for ten years with the Harrodsburg Police Department, twelve years with the Danville Police Department where he achieved the rank of Captain and went on to serve ten years and retire from the Fayette County Detention Center. Frank was a dedicated Mason and member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #28 F&AM, Scottish Rite and York Rite. He loved woodworking and fishing, despite being “ornery and stubborn”. He served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was a hunter education instructor for the hunter safety training course.

He is survived by two sons, John (Andria) Mattingly II of Stanford, Frank (Brooke) Mattingly II of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Edith Rose Mattingly of Danville; ten grandchildren, John Andrew Mattingly, Summer Denney, Hadley and Mia Mattingly, Kaleigh and Jackson Bourne and Gabriel, Jason, Jayden and Xavier Clarkston; four brothers; Alex (Betty) Mattingly of Lexington, Bernard (Barbara) Mattingly of Cookeville, TN, Glenn (Paula) Mattingly of Springfield, Martin (Laura) Mattingly of Frankfort and one sister, Ardela (Bobby) Smith of Florence.

The funeral service will be 1pm, Friday, May 22, 2020 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. The family will receive close friends and family after 12 noon. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. Hugs from Home information and the online guestbook are available at www.stithcares.com.
