Eleanor “Ellie” Monohan Clay, 71, died May 1, 2021 at her home on Herrington Lake after a valiant fight with cancer. Born the youngest sister to three older brothers on July 15, 1949 in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of the late Edward Sheehan and Mary Lally Monohan of Ft. Mitchell. Ellie worked for Caldwell Banker – VIP as a realtor and found great joy as a substitute teacher. With her passing, she joins her late husband John Richard Clay of Danville.

Ellie knew no strangers. She was endlessly hopeful and generous with her love. Her one rule was to make yourself at home, and she’d always make sure you were properly fed. She could get a splinter out of any foot without tears. She was especially fond of red turtlenecks, but never hesitated to wear a costume when the time called for an Easter Bunny or a wicked witch. She invariably knew who the killer was within the first 15 minutes of a movie. She was a devoted wife, sister, and mother.

She is survived by her three daughters, Katherine Clay (Ryan) St. Clair, Sarah Eleanor Clay, and Elizabeth Eaves Clay; her three brothers Edward, Dennis and Sean Monohan; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless others she held close to her heart.

The funeral mass will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Danville. Celebrant will be Father Anthony McLaughlin. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Please sign the online guestbook or send a Hug from Home.
