Debbie J. Martin, 67, of Danville, went to be with the Lord June 24, 2023. She was born August 20, 1955, in Danville to Ollie Nantz and the late Earl “Speck” Nantz. Debbie graduated from Crab Orchard High School and Eastern Kentucky University with both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She loved children and devoted her life to them, teaching at Kentucky School for the Deaf for over 30 years. Debbie was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and attended Southland Christian Church. She is the widow of Jerry Wayne Martin.

Along with her mother she is survived by her children Matthew (Aleshea) Martin and Lyndsey (Aaron) Carpenter, her brother Mark (Donna) Nantz, and her grandchildren Jacob Martin Carpenter, Emerson Martin, Ava Jayne Carpenter, Taylor Carpenter, Reese Martin, Sloan Martin, and Sawyer Martin, and her sister-in-law, Kathy Martin. Debbie was known and respected throughout the Danville community and especially loved by her KSD family and many other loving friends.

The funeral service will be noon, Friday, July 7, 2023, at Gethsemane Baptist Church with Rev. Chadwick Noel, Rev. Brad King, Rev. Kyle Stachewicz and Rev. Brian Lucas. Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Gethsemane Baptist Church. The burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery with her husband.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Carpenter, Zeke Nantz, Jason Brewer, Byron Wilson, David Carpenter, Amos Jared Reid and Alex Spears. Honorary pallbearers are Sherry Hodge, Mary Beth Gay, Barb Snapp, Karen Schulz, Kent Mann, Scott Haun, Bill Frederick, Herb Toombs, and other special friends from KSD.

Memorial donations are suggested to Samaritan’s Purse or Give Kids the World.
