David S. Neikirk, 74, of Danville and Falmouth, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 6 at UK Medical Center following a brief illness. The son of the late Adam S. and Christine Neikirk of Danville, he was born July 20, 1943. He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah K. Neikirk; a brother, Paul M. Neikirk, and a sister, Jorene Brewer.
A loving father, son, and husband, he leaves a son, Chris Neikirk of Falmouth; a sister, Jean Holmes of Danville; a granddaughter, Taylor Dennie; and two great-grandchildren, Piper Lee Dennie, and Paris Myles Dennie, all of Falmouth. He also is survived by his special friend Dorothy Swope, four nephews and nieces, and six grand-nephews and nieces.
A 1962 graduate of Danville High, he attended Eastern Kentucky Univ., where he played tuba in the marching band. David had a decades-long successful career as a clothier in the Cincinnati and Lexington area, serving as a consultant and sales manager for Gidding Jenny, Burkhart’s, and L. Strauss. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy that included a tour to Viet Nam on the USS Okanogan, an attack transport, David was an accomplished guitarist, avid dancer, and a strong supporter of the Arts. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Danville, serving as a deacon for several years.
A funeral service will be held Monday, September 11 at Stith Funeral Home in Danville, followed by military graveside services at Bellevue Cemetery, Danville. Visitation will be from 11 – 2 Monday. Following the funeral service and graveside burial, a reception will be held at the Neikirk home in Danville.
