Darrell Clinton Preston, 72, died Monday, January 11, 2021 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was born in Danville on April 24, 1948 to the late Ralph and Rose “Pie” Lewis Preston. Darrell graduated from Boyle County High School in 1966 and attended Eastern Kentucky Universiaty. He served two years in the United States Army with a deployment to Vietnam. He joined Whirlpool for 37 years and retired after about 29 years as Shipping Supervisor. Also in 2019 he retired from the Boyle County School System Transportation Dept. He always thought a lot of his kids. He was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God. Darrell was an avid fan of University of Kentucky Sports and Boyle County Football. He loved breakfast as evidenced by his membership in three breakfast clubs, Monday – Friday at Hardee’s 5 a.m. club, Wanda’s at 7 a.m. Saturday, and Dairy Queen. 7 a.m. on Sunday. He loved fishing especially his twice a year crappie fishing trips to Alabama. He never met a stranger, had many friends and loved every one of them. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a grandson, John Carter Knight.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Poynter Preston of Danville; his son, Darrell “Keith” Preston (Cheryl); his daughter, Stacy Cox (Al); his brother, Randy Preston (Connie); three grandchildren, Courtney Conder (Michael), Ashley Bultena (Nick), Erica Russell (Chris); three great grandchildren, Haley Conder, Connor Bultena, Charlotte Bultena; and several much loved nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Stith Funeral Home, Junction City and will be livestreamed through our Stith Funeral Home facebook page. Rev. Tom Lane will officiate. Burial will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #8. Pallbearers will be Tony Underwood, Michael Conder, Billy Moore, David Reynolds, Joey Sallee, and Scott Preston. Visitation will be 5 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Stith Funeral Home in Junction City. Memorial donations are suggested to Boyle County High School Bass Fishing Team or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Please sign the online guestbook or send a Hugs from Home to the family.
