A family graveside service will be held Wednesday at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Carroll William Boatwright, Jr. 78 died on August 2, 2022, in Boyle County.  He was born October 21, 1943 in Augusta, Ga. to the late Carroll William and Ouida Boatwright, Sr.  Carroll graduated from Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Alabama.  He earned his BS in Industrial Engineering at Auburn University and his MBA at Georgia State University.  He was an engineer and problem solver and retired from Philips Lighting Co.

Carroll was a quiet man by nature with a great laugh, humble and introspective and he enjoyed his quiet time with his family.  He lovingly dedicated hours and hours to exploring the family genealogy and puttering around his house, playing with cars and motorcycles, struggling to learn to play the guitar and expressing his spirituality through poetry.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pat; his son, Michael William Boatwright; two grandchildren, Emma and Paige; a cousin, Martha Mixon of Augusta, Ga; and sister-in-law, Rosemary (Gary) McNutt;a niece, Elizabeth McNutt Marchand and nephew, James McNutt. 

A private graveside service will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.                                          

Memorial donations are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 301 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or the WWII Museum, 945 Magazine St., New Orleans, Louisiana, 70130.
