Betty Bugg Hughes, 81, of Danville, passed away on May 31, 2020 after a long illness.

Born April 21, 1939 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Oran Bernard and Mary Pauline Conine Edge. She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Catherine Edge.

Betty grew up in Texarkana, AR and graduated from Arkansas Baptist Nursing School in Little Rock. She moved to Danville in 1968 where she raised her two sons with her late husband, Charles Bugg. She worked at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for 36 years as an RN and spent the majority of her career as the house supervisor. She was respected and admired by patients, doctors, her fellow nurses and the staff.

Betty enjoyed shopping, reading, cooking, and tending to her flowers. Her peanut butter fudge was world class, and her spaghetti, chili and potato salad were unrivaled. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Danville Bypass. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 17 years, John Hughes, her sons David Bugg, and Gary (Virginia) Bugg, her stepsons David Hughes (Joani) and Mark Hughes. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Mary Scott & Caroline Bugg, Benjamin & Brittany Bugg, and her step-grandchildren Kevin Hughes, Tim Hughes Williams, Molly Ramos, and Brayden, Tyler, & Keaton Hughes, and her great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Thursday, June 4, 2020 at First Baptist Church, Danville Bypass. Service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 4, 2020 to follow. Rev. Tim Mathis and Rev. David Hughes will officiate. Memorial donations are suggested to the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation.
