Arnold Lee Grider, Sr. died August 9, 2020. Born August 31, 1938 in Waco, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Roscoe Lee and Nannie Mae Lewis Grider. He was a graduate from Athens High School and the University of Kentucky. He went on to serve in the United States Airforce from 1957 to 1961, where he was stationed in Alaska.  Arnold owned Grider Construction Co., building custom built homes all over Kentucky. He later became a salesperson at 84 Lumber Co. in Danville and enjoyed helping numerous builders with their projects.   In his free time, he loved gardening and woodworking, especially turning beautiful bowls from many kinds of wood.  He was also a well known wine Master Craftsman.  One of his specialties was making wine with a chocolate aftertaste.  Arnold was devoted to his family and grandchildren and in his later years he enjoyed painting landscapes in all genres.   He was a longtime member and Master Mason at the Mercer Masonic Lodge # 777 and the Knights Templar.  He was a member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Harrodsburg.  Arnold was predeceased by his sister, Iris Goggin, and two sons-in-law, Michael Gideon and Brent Peavler.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Katherine “Kat” Grider, one son, Arnold Lee (Lynette) Grider Jr of Guyton, GA and three daughters, Sharon Grider of Lexington, Rebecca (William) Grider Webb of Danville, and Dara Ann (James) Ball of Junction City; thirteen grandchildren, Elizabeth, William, Jessica, Gabriel, Hannah, Travis, Cheyanne, Dalton, Anthony, Allyssa, Jamison, Alexa, and Samuel; and five great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Amelia, Thomas, Caleb, and Jaysa.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 15^th from 12 – 4 p.m. at his home, 210 Hays Lane, Danville.   Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at their residence.   Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.   The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Heritage Hospice.   The online guestbook is available at www.stithcares.com.
