Roy Edward Goins, 60, died Memorial Day, May 25, 2020 after an 8 year battle with cancer. He died at Ephraim McDowell after being home with Hospice Care for 5 weeks. He was such a strong fighter, trying to survive what he had been dealt. Born in Indianapolis on October 30, 1959, he is the son of Josie Burchett Goins and the late Albert Lee Goins. Following graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. After his enlistment he returned to Indiana, became a volunteer fireman and worked at the Heartland Co-op fertilizing corn fields. He then attended truck driving school, became an over the road truck driver and moved to Danville to be closer to his family. His sister and Melinda’s sister set them up on a blind date. They talked for three weeks before they finally met and married soon after. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James (Debbie Woods) Goins and Larry Goins and a baby sister Rebecca Sue Goins.

He is survived by his wife, Melinda McGuffey Goins, their daughter Rebekah Elizabeth Goins and a stepson, Larry B. Young who had moved in to help. He is also survived by his mother, Josie Elizabeth Burchett Goins, two brothers, Albert (Judy) Goins of Rochester, New York and Richard (Belinda) Goins of Indiana; four sisters, Caryn (Jeff) Fuqua of Junction City and Sara Goins of Danville, Deana (Randy) Foxworthy and Sheila McCormick both of Indiana, his mother-in-law, Gertrude Adams McGuffey of Danville, brother-in-law, Keith (Julie) McGuffey of Louisville, sisters-n-law, Donna (Mike) Grant of Portland, Tenn., Flo Downs of Danville, Pam (Lucian) Muncy of Corbin, Gladys Jones Goins and several nieces and nephews.

Military Honors will be provided by the Caswell-Saufley American Legion Post #19.
